THE GROUP EXPERIENCE

The holidays can be hard for reasons people don’t always see.

Grief does not pause for holiday plans. Neither do complicated family dynamics or loneliness. In each 90-minute session, Davina guides structured discussion and activities that explore emotional regulation, practical coping skills, and setting boundaries. You’ll learn what participation looks like before deciding whether to join.

Reflect

Put words to the moments, memories, and changes that feel heavy.

Connect

Share space with other adults in facilitated, respectful conversations.

Build tools

Explore ways to handle grief, family tension, and difficult conversations.

Restore

Make room to reflect on what matters, even in a demanding season.

WHAT YOU COULD TAKE WITH YOU

More grounded. Better equipped. Less alone.

Group therapy won't erase grief or resolve every difficult relationship. It can create room to practice real-life skills with a counselor and other adults. By the end of eight sessions, you may have:

  • Coping tools to try when grief or overwhelm shows up
  • More clarity about the boundaries you want to set
  • Practice naming emotions without having to hide them
  • A better sense of what helps during family tension or seasonal stress
  • Connection with others while navigating a complicated time

Potential benefits vary by person; outcomes are not guaranteed. Davina reviews clinical fit during screening.

CLINICAL FIT MATTERS

Is Through the Season™ right for you?

This is a therapist-led outpatient group, not emergency or intensive care. The confidential screening is a chance to ask how the group works, what respectful participation involves, and whether it is appropriate for your needs.

This group may be a good fit if you're...

  • Navigating seasonal sadness, low motivation or changes in emotional well-being
  • Experiencing grief, loneliness or difficult feelings surrounding the holidays
  • Adjusting to divorce, family estrangement, loss or changing traditions
  • Feeling pressure to celebrate when the season feels overwhelming
  • Looking for a therapeutic group to explore coping skills, boundaries and connection

You don't have to navigate the season alone.

A different type of support may be needed if...

  • You need immediate crisis intervention or a higher level of mental health care
  • Your current symptoms require stabilization or a more intensive treatment approach
  • You are seeking intensive trauma processing beyond this group's scope
  • Participating safely and respectfully in a confidential group is not currently possible

A different level of care does not mean someone is excluded from healing or future participation.

Read the full clinician-provided guidance on who this group may not be for

Through the Season™ provides structured outpatient group therapy focused on seasonal wellness, grief, emotional regulation, connection and restoration. It is not designed to replace crisis intervention, intensive psychiatric treatment or specialized care.

The group may not be the most appropriate level of care at this time for individuals who:

  • Are experiencing an immediate mental health crisis, active suicidal intent with an imminent safety concern or circumstances requiring emergency intervention.
  • Have severe depressive symptoms or functional impairment requiring more intensive treatment than a weekly outpatient group can provide.
  • Are experiencing acute mania, psychosis or significant psychiatric instability currently interfering with safe and meaningful participation.
  • Have active substance use or withdrawal concerns requiring detoxification, stabilization or specialized treatment before group participation.
  • Have acute trauma-related symptoms or dissociation requiring a more individualized or intensive stabilization approach.
  • Are currently experiencing interpersonal violence or coercive control where group participation creates safety or confidentiality risks that cannot be adequately addressed.
  • Are seeking intensive trauma processing, specialized trauma treatment or individualized grief treatment beyond the scope of this program.
  • Are unable or unwilling to maintain group confidentiality, respect others' boundaries or participate safely within group agreements.
  • Need individualized treatment as their primary intervention and would not receive sufficient support from a weekly group alone.

When this group is not clinically appropriate, Liberation may recommend individual therapy, specialized treatment, psychiatric evaluation, intensive outpatient services or other resources based on the person's needs. Participation is determined through a confidential clinical screening considering symptoms, stability, treatment needs and ability to benefit from the group.

In an immediate emergency, call 911. In the U.S., call or text 988 for crisis support.
